2D/3D Trail Map

Boardman State Park is a spectacular stretch of rocky overlooks and uncluttered beaches. There are numerous overlooks along the highway, but to fully appreciate the park requires taking a hike. The Oregon Coast Trail wanders through Boardman Park in a series of short--and often steep--arcs between viewpoints. Hiking the full length of the park is possible, usually on trail. One word of caution: travelling north generally means having the wind in your face. This is probably a larger issue for bicyclists on Highway 101, but it's worth considering starting from the north if you are a through hiker.

Mile 0.08 003 (21-MAR-06 2:08:25PM)

Starting at Lone Ranch, the first part of the trail is washed out at Lone Ranch Creek, but logs across the creek provide a makeshift bridge. Trails crisscross the whole meadow on the way up to Cape Ferello. Just pick the trail closest to the ocean and head up the clear, green path to the top of Cape Ferello. When in doubt, follow the arrows on top of posts which mark the OCT. Ocean views stretch for miles north and south from the top of Cape Ferello, and the surf pounds against rocks far below.

Mile 1.56 Cape Ferello VP (21-MAR-06 2:34:58PM)

From a parking atop Cape Ferello, the Coast Trail continues north, traversing a slope high above the surf. Watch for impressively large banana slugs which are plentiful in the rainy season.
